I am from Keaukaha in Waiākea on the Hawaiʻi Island.  I am Kalani Quiocho a descendant of Kalaniʻōpuʻu and the lineages of Hawaiʻi and Maui.  I am honored to receive this position as an emerging conservationist.  It has been a dream to become a scientist and participate in conserving Hawaiʻi’s unique landscapes and seascapes.  After graduating from Kamehameha on Oʻahu, I attended UH Mānoa, and graduated with a BA in Hawaiian Studies.  I then began working with NOAA as a longline fishery observer for nearly 3 years.  This position prompted me to return home and attend UH Hilo as a Marine Science major.  I am interested in Hawaiian culture, conservation, and I really enjoy working with communities.  And my focus is to integrate traditional Hawaiian knowledge and science as a method for approaching conservation.  I want to thank everyone seen and unseen who have allowed me to be here in this place and time.  I look forward to a rewarding experience.  Mahalo.
